Meeting for coffee or dinner is ordinary, and though safe leaves no room for conversational lulls if things don't go well. A sporting event can be dual purpose as it allows for conversing while watching (except during exciting times when the crowd gets loud) and can cover an umpleasant lull because it's not just the two of you looking at one another.
